These are FDA-approved injectable medications which, when used in combination with healthy food choices and exercise, help control your blood sugar, slows gastric emptying (how fast your stomach empties food). They also work in your brain to help curb your appetite and help you feel more satisfied after eating. Together, these functions help you to feel less hungry, eat less, and lose more weight. 

We start with an initial appointment to draw fasting labs, do a body composition analysis, and an EKG.  These will be reviewed with you during your consultation 2-3 days later with our healthcare provider and used to help create an individualized treatment plan for you. 
Our semaglutide/tirzapatide program includes a weekly weigh-in visit and semaglutide/tirzepatide injection with our medical assistant and a follow up visit with our Registered Nurse or Nurse Practitioner every 4 weeks. You will start with an initial low-dose and slowly each week work your way up to the target dose, where you will see the most weight loss. Everyone is different and this target dose will vary from person to person. We start with an initial 8-or 12-week program, but most patients need 12-20 weeks for optimal weight loss. You can continue a month-to-month program after your initial program to continue working toward your weight loss goal.

The most common side effects include nausea, heartburn, or GI upset. You may also experience constipation from slowed gastric emptying and decreased food intake. We include anti-nausea medication in our weekly program. We also offer a supplement to reduce constipation that works well with minimal cramping or untoward effects.

No, semaglutide is not typically covered by insurance strictly for weight loss unless you also have a diagnosis of Type II Diabetes. We’ll review your labs during your consultation, and if you qualify, we are happy to assist you with getting this covered by your insurance, but no guarantees are made that it will be covered.
