How many treatments will I need?

The number of treatments needed varies from patient to patient, depending on skin care concerns, but we recommend a series of 3-4 treatments for most patients for optimal results.

What will happen during the procedure?

The procedure is typically gentle and safe. Generally, there is no need for topical anesthetic. Your eyes will be protected with safety goggles, similar to ones used in tanning beds. You may briefly feel warmth or a “rubber band” snap sensation as the light is absorbed by the targeted areas. Most procedures take 15-20 minutes, depending on the size of the area being treated.

What should I expect after the treatment?

You may experience some redness that should resolve within a few hours. For age or pigmented spots, you will see a darkening of the targeted areas (called “peppering”) followed by fading and flaking off within a few days.

How long will it take to recover?

This is a non-invasive procedure with generally no downtime. In most cases, you are able to return to work and resume most activities immediately after the treatment. The aftercare instructions will be reviewed before your procedure and do include avoiding direct sun exposure and wearing sunscreen.
